Using Database “Collections”

The different departments in universities and really big public libraries often subscribe to different magazines.  Students using the fine arts library will see different titles than students in the agriculture school.  It makes browsing a little easier, since you’re already in a collection that deals with your subject of interest.

The company that provides library patrons online access to thousands of magazine and newspaper articles has recently created specialized “collections” that do the same thing as departmental libraries.  They can make your searches easier.

For example, a usually difficult search like one for the latest fighter aircraft being developed for the Air Force, the “F-22,” may return mostly useless hits in a general search of the databases.  If you limit the search to a collection called the Military and Intelligence Database, your results will be much better.

Explore the following collections by choosing one that matches your interests.
