Adult Fiction and Non-Fiction
The library has about 50,000 volumes and the collection is built around
the interests of the community and a wide variety of review
sources. Almost
all of our books are searchable in our catalog. If you have
any difficulty
locating a book, please see the library staff for assistance. If there
is a book that you do not find on the shelf or in our
collection, please
ask about interlibrary loan services.
Audio Books
The Library has a wide variety of books on audiocassette, CD, and small
self-contained players (Playaway--see below). You can search the catalog
for audio books formats. Once you search by title, author, keyword, or subject,
use the "Modify Search" button to restrict
results by material type. Choose either Spoken (Tape) for
audiocassettes, Spoken (CD), or Digital Player and click the "submit"
button to show you audio book results. Confused? Ask the
reference librarian.
Playaway Audio Books
The newest audio book format, the Playaway is a small (2 ounce)
self-contained player that already has the book loaded. Supply your
own earphones, or you may purchase earbuds at the Circulation desk.
No cassettes or CDs to shuffle or accidentally leave in your player.
Ask a staff member for a demonstration.
Computer CD-ROMs
Computer
CD-ROMs are available for circulation. In this collection,
you will find
games and educational software for all age groups. CD-ROMs
circulate for
three weeks. To find CD-ROMs about a specific subject or with a favorite character, use the keyword
search. You can limit results by Material Type to Software and retrieve only CD-ROM results.
Large Print Books
Large print fiction and non-fiction titles are located adjacent to
bookshelf 5. These items can be searched in the catalog
using the search limit of Large Print once you have your initial search
results.
Magazines Patrons may check out any
of our magazines, including the most recent issue, for 1 week. The
library generally keeps magazines for 1 year.
Music CDs
The Library maintains a large collection of music CD's which are arranged
by musical category and artist. To search for a favorite band, composer,
or performer, use the author search. New
Fiction and Non-Fiction
All new books purchased within the last year are placed on the shelves
to the left of the circulation desk. If the book you were looking for
is out, you can reserve it.
Newspapers
Daily newspapers do not circulate, but are available in the lounge area
under the main window. Past issues are kept for approximately
one month.
To search for articles that appeared in the Boston Globe
(1980-present), Springfield Republican (1988-present), and other papers, use
the database
Newsbank to retrieve and print or email articles. Articles
received online do not include photos or illustrations.
Paperback Fiction
Paperbacks are now located on bookshelf 2, behind the new books.
Videos
Videocassettes (VHS) and DVDs are organized by film category (e.g.,
comedy, drama) and title. Use the catalog
to search for movies by title, favorite actor, or subject. All
videos circulate for 1 week. You may check out up to 10 videos at a
time. Late fees on videos are $1 per day.
