A Message from the President of the South Hadley Friends of the Library

Like many, I’ve been using Public Libraries for over 40 years, but have only recently realized what that has meant to my family. It means that we have read and looked at thousands of books and other media that we could never have had access to anywhere else. We, along with most others, could never afford to purchase all of the books we have read and will read (and we couldn’t possibly keep all of those books in one home). As children we were able to have others read to us, experience a trip to the bookmobile, choose from so many books right at our level, or see a magic show with just a small group of other children experiencing it with us.

Of course, these realizations are just a very small slice of what our Public Libraries offer our community. Our own South Hadley Public Library has been a community center of giving and learning for 100 years. How many term papers were completed here over the century? In 100 years, how many children ran up to the door and eagerly stepped into the Library?

I’m so pleased to have had the honor of serving as this year’s Friends of the Library President. 2006 marked our 100th year anniversary, and many events took place to commemorate the South Hadley Public Library for its commitment to our community. Please click on the links provided to remind ourselves what our Public Library means to us, what we can do to support our Public Library and what the Friends of the Library do to support it.

Happy Browsing!
