Adult Programs

The Library occasionally presents various speakers or other presentations aimed at the interest of our adult patrons. Please refer to the Library's online calendar for additional information. Suggestions for programs are always welcome.

Youth Services

The Library's Youth Services Room is up the ramp from the Circulation Desk. This is where you will find any materials with a "J" listed in the call number. You can search just the Children's Catalog--please click here. Please note: to retrieve videos, you will need to search the entire catalog.

Children's fiction is divided into several categories:

  • JJ--Picture Books-Toddler-Grade 2.
  • J-Juvenile Fiction for Grade 3-6.
  • Green Dot-Paperback fiction Grade 3-12
  • J Dewey Decimal Number-Non-Fiction Grade 3-12
  • JJ Dewey Decimal Number-Non-Fiction-Toddler-Grade 2

Computers

Computers are available for public use. Word processing, educational, and reference databases are available in the main reading room. Similar educational and reference programs are available on the Children's Room computers. The Library maintains thirteen computers for Internet access with speedy printing available on all. Printing costs 10 cents per sheet. Please refer to the South Hadley Public Library Internet Policy for further information.

Interlibrary Loan

Many of the books, videos, and music that you cannot locate in our library may be obtained through us from another library. Loan periods vary on these items. Turn around time varies from under a week to up to two depending on availability. You can also request copies of magazine articles that are no longer available on our shelves. Please contact the Reference Librarian for further details.

Meeting Space

The Library maintains a public common room for organizations that wish to hold meetings on our premises. Please contact the Director for further information or to schedule an event.

Museum Passes

Rainy day? School vacation? Looking for something fun to do? Borrow a pass for Holyoke Children's Museum, Springfield Museums, the Norman Rockwell Museum, Hancock Shaker Village, or a Massachusetts ParksPass.  We also have a discount pass for the Mystic Aquarium. Passes can be booked in advance and need to be picked up at the library on the day of the reservation and returned before the library opens the next day.  Returned passes can be deposited in the book drop if the library is closed. Please inquire at the Circulation Desk for information and reservations: 538-5045.

Photocopying

A photocopier is available for public use. Copies are 10¢ per page.

Reference

If you have trouble finding information or the materials you need, please see the Reference Librarian for assistance. We also provide reference service over the telephone for short answer inquires, 538-5045.

Reserves

If you cannot locate a book on the shelf, we can reserve any title that we own for you. You can place a reserve request over the Internet, in person, or over the phone. When the book becomes available, we will notify you by email or telephone.

Story Time

The Children's Librarian holds Story Time for young children every Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. A calendar is located on the ramp leading into the Children's Room in order to check for schedule changes and new programs. Please refer to the Library's online calendar for additional programs.
